Parenting teenagers is hard work! The developmental changes that occur during these years are unprecedented and most parents don’t have the support, information or tools they need to cope effectively during this tumultuous time. Parents frequently find themselves triggered by their teen’s behavior and often respond in ways that aren’t effective. This can make a challenging situation worse and cause more stress, overwhelm, and emotional disconnection.
Wynn Burkett and Ann Arora, MFT developed a successful workshop designed to help parents utilize mindfulness skills to better regulate their own emotional experience when interacting with their teen. Instead of focusing on changing their teen or their teen’s behavior, we help parents to instead modify their own reactions to their teen. Learning to stay calmer and more emotionally centered during these interactions will result in less conflict and greater connection with our teens.
